On January 20, 1953, Jeffrey Edward Epstein was born in the Brooklyn borough of New York City.
Seymour George Epstein (1916–1991) and Pauline “Paula” Stolofsky (1918–2004), Jeffrey Epstein’s Jewish parents, were married in 1952, the year before he was born.
Pauline worked as a school helper and as a housewife. “Paula was a wonderful mother and homemaker, despite her full-time job,” said Epstein’s old childhood buddy.
Seymour worked for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation as a gardener and groundskeeper. Mark and Jeffrey, the eldest of two children, grew up in Coney Island, Brooklyn’s working-class Sea Gate neighborhood.
Sea Gate was a neighborhood behind a private gate. While Epstein was dubbed “Bear” by his parents, Mark was called “Puggie.” The neighbors thought the Epstein family was “so gentle, the most gentle people.”
“He was just an average boy, very smart in math, slightly overweight, freckles, and always smiling,” a female friend reportedly recounted.
Seymour and Paula (Stolofsky) Epstein were the parents of Epstein, according to Patterson’s book. They were descended from European immigrants, many of whose extended relatives would die in the Holocaust.
Seymour began his career as a house demolition contractor for his father before moving on to the New York City Parks Department. Paula worked too.
Longtime childhood friend of Epstein’s Gary Grossberg noted that Paula was an excellent housewife and mother despite working full-time.
Epstein had a fascination for mathematics and was a gifted student, as was his brother Mark. Epstein’s friends felt he had musical ability when he started playing the piano at an early age.
In comparison to pictures taken twenty years later, Epstein’s features seem softer and more composed in high school pictures.

In 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty to charges of hiring a prostitute and recruiting a child for prostitution, and a Florida state court ruled him guilty.
He was found guilty of only these two crimes as part of a difficult plea deal, and he received a sentence of more than thirteen months in jail along with a significant amount of work release.
On July 6, 2019, Epstein was once again placed under arrest on federal charges pertaining to the sex trafficking of minors in New York and Florida.
In his cell, on August 10, 2019, he died dead. The medical examiner concluded that he committed suicide by hanging.
Epstein’s lawyers have challenged the ruling, and a lot of people are suspicious about the true cause of his death, which has given rise to a number of conspiracy theories.
A court dropped all criminal charges against Epstein on August 29, 2019, since it was not viable to pursue legal action against him after his death.
After a decades-long association with Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty in 2021 on U.S. federal charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy for helping Epstein procure females, including a 14-year-old, for child sexual abuse and prostitution.
