Jelena Ostapenko has no health difficulties and is currently fit to compete at the Australian Open. Previously, numerous tennis fans expressed concern about Latvian players’ weight gain.
Jelena Ostapenko, the former World No. 5, has been open about her weight gain for quite some time. However, the Latvian did not appear to be concerned. And the reports that she has Type 1 diabetes are false. The World No.10 has re-established herself as one of the best on the court, and she now aspires to win her first major doubles title alongside partner Lyudmyla Kichenok.
They will face Elise Mertens and Hsieh Su-wei. Victoria Azarenka, a Belarusian tennis star, eliminated Ostapenko in the third round of the singles competition. However, the 26-year-old now has a chance to win her first major Grand Slam title in six years, the last being at the 2017 French Open.

Tennis fans have long been curious about the health of Latvian star Jelena Ostapenko. Previously, some fans alleged that the former world number five had type 1 diabetes. However, Jelena has never mentioned being sick in any of her interviews. Diabetes may be dangerous for any athlete and is a big subject of concern; therefore, if Jelena had Type 1 diabetes, she would have addressed it throughout her interviews.
Several athletes from various sports have continued to participate despite their diabetes diagnosis. Alexander Zverev, the world number six in men’s tennis, is one such example. Zverev was three years old when he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Doctors advised his parents that he would never be a top athlete, but the German stayed motivated.
Zverev has previously been spotted injecting insulin in between matches. Last year, during the French Open, Alexander was ordered to leave the court to inject his insulin, causing a fuss. Despite his health difficulties, Alexander has become one of the world’s best tennis players.
So, if Jelena had Type 1 diabetes, the entire tennis world would have been aware of it, as players with Type 1 diabetes are frequently seen wearing insulin pens and glucose monitors.
The reason behind Jelena’s Weight Gain
Some admirers argue that, despite Jelena’s weight gain, she appears unharmed because the Latvian is typically injury-free. Some admirers claim that the Latvian’s sweet tooth gets the best of her. Fans of Jelena may be aware that she adores baking and has a separate Instagram account dedicated to showcasing her culinary skills.
Jelena has shared images of herself creating Napoleon cake, a classic Russian treat, on her baking Instagram account. Last year, she shared photographs of her homemade cheesecake and macaroon pastries. The tennis star adores cakes and other sweets. However, if Jelena had only eaten sweets and not followed a diet plan, she would not have made it to the Australian Open final.
Jelena recently talked to Tennis Major about her health and running routine with her coach. Stanislav Khmarsky is now Latvia’s coach. With over a decade of experience as a professional athlete, Jelena understands weight management and what is ideal for her body better than anybody else.
Jelena may not appear to be your normal tennis player, but that doesn’t mean she always eats poorly. She has returned to the top ten and just won the Adelaide International Tournament. If Jelena had been physically unfit, she or her coach would have withdrew from the international competitions. But she competes, and she wins.
