How did Jerome Flynn start his Professional Career?

Jerome Flynn’s career began in 1986 when he appeared in the LWT television film London’s Burning as fireman Kenny “Rambo” Baines. He was the only member of the main cast who was unable to reprise his role (aside from Gary McDonald, whose own character, Andreas “Ethnic” Lewis, was killed off in the film) due to prior commitments when the film was adapted into a television series of the same name in 1988.

Jerome Flynn played Freddie in the ITV thriller The Fear, set in the London underworld, in 1988. He played D.S Eddie Hargreaves in six episodes of the police drama Between The Lines (1992). Flynn appeared in the ITV show “Soldier Soldier” as Corporal Paddy Garvey of the King’s Fusiliers. The show first aired in 1990.

He co-starred in the series with Robson Green. After Flynn and Green performed Unchained Melody on the show, ITV was inundated with requests to buy the song, and the couple was persuaded by recording Simon Cowell to record it and release it as a single, a double A-side with White Cliffs of Dover. The single was released in 1995 as Robson & Jerome and reached number one in the UK chart.

He played Bobby Charlton in the 1999 film Best. On stage, he played Tommy Cooper in Jus’ Like That, a comedy magician homage written and directed by John Fisher. He was also featured on the TV show So You Think You’re Royal? after it was discovered that he is a direct descendant of Oliver Cromwell through his mother, as well as a descendant of England’s Edward I, Edward II, and Edward III.

Flynn co-stars with Matthew Macfadyen in four seasons of Ripper Street for the BBC. He appeared in the episode “Shut Up and Dance” of the anthology series Black Mirror in 2016.
