Myasthenia gravis (MG) causes muscle weakness and fatigue that the patient is unable to control. MG can be caused by a disruption in the normal communication between nerves and muscles. Women under the age of 40 are more likely to develop MG than men over the age of 60.
Common symptoms include muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, double vision or diplopia, difficulty speaking, swallowing and chewing issues, and changes in facial expressions. According to specialists, children are occasionally born with the congenital myasthenic syndrome, a rare form of myasthenia gravis.
The illness may cause a myasthenic crisis, thymus gland tumors, an underactive or hyperactive thyroid, and autoimmune diseases. Myasthenia gravis has no permanent treatment.
