On September 3, 2016, he fought McJoe Arroyo to become the IBF junior bantamweight champion. On January 29, 2017, Jerwin made his first defense, defeating José Alfredo Rodrguez by technical knockout.

It was revealed in December that this boxer had signed with Top Rank and will make his U.S. debut in February 2018. Finally, on 3 February 2018, he would make his US debut and successfully defend his IBF championship. Similarly, he faced IBF #1 ranked championship contender Jonas Sultan in his next title defense. He did, however, easily win the bout. On November 18, 2017, he fought Jamie Conlan with a 6 TKO.
