Ferdy and Therese Mauboy are Jessica Mauboy’s parents. The father of Mauboy, Ferdy Mauboy, was a West Timor-based electrician who was born in Indonesia. Therese, her mother, is an indigenous member of the Kuku Yalanji tribe in Australia’s Far North Queensland.
Mauboy was raised in a musical household where her father played the guitar and her mother sang. The entire family was passionate about music. When Mauboy was a little child, her parents divorced, and she was primarily raised by her mother. Grandma Harriett used to participate in the choir at church.
Before leaving school in year 11, she attended Sanderson High School and Darwin’s Wulagi Primary School. When he was 14, Mauboy participated in the Telstra Road to Tamworth competition at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in New South Wales.
