A few years later, he is alleged to have dumped Qiuyan after having her put her career on wait for him.
Jet Li understood the true nature of love
Li disclosed in 2020 that he decided to give Nina Li Chi management of his RMB2 billion fortune because he was so appreciative of her and trusted her.
The actor complimented Chi, whom he wed in 1999, for postponing her career in show business so she could devote herself to their family. When he was younger, he also recalled seeing a girl who admired him and thinking that he too loved her.
He knew, however, that he had fallen in love with Chi at first sight and that he would sacrifice fame and fortune for her. He was talking about the girl who was his first wife, Qiuyan.
Li and Qiuyan were married for three years, from 1987 to 1990, until Li met Nina in 1988 while the two were co-working on the Dragon Fight film.
He said that he understood he needed to apologize to his ex-wife [via Yahoo] and that he did so. I want to express my regrets to my ex-wife. I made a mistake. True love, I’ve just learned what it is.
The former beauty icon is still dazzling and loyal to their two children, Jane and Jada, he later stated, even after 21 years of marriage to Chi. He continued by saying that it makes him feel deserving of being a husband.
The former pair reportedly got together at Beijing Shichahai Sports School while they were both studying Wushu. Despite Qiuyan being two years older than Li, they got along well and discreetly wed in June 1987.
There was no formal wedding ceremony, and neither of the parents were there.
When Qiuyan, who was seven months pregnant, decided to leave her showbiz profession in 1988 to be with her husband, Li made the decision to move to the United States in order to advance his career.
Si Li and Taimi Li, her two grown children, are now in their early thirties. It’s also important to note that Li only wed Qiuyan because his godmother, a psychic, advised him to do so in order for his “luck” to change.
After his health began to decline, she had offered this piece of counsel, thinking that the fortunate energy from a happy occasion like marriage would be helpful.
Despite this, since their divorce, Qiuyan has only had positive things to say about Li. As a result, she has gained recognition for her compassion and forbearance.
It also comes as no surprise that he and his ex-wife are close friends. He gifted Qiuyan US$50,000 in ang pow to mark the joyous event of her second marriage in 2005.
