Jillie Joan Mack, Tom Selleck’s lifelong companion, was born in Devizes, Wiltshire, UK, on December 25, 1957.
Even though the public knows very little about her parents, it is at least known that the 64-year-old was formerly the exuberant dancer who played Rumpleteazer for the Cats.
It is also known that she started showing off her acting abilities while still in college by taking part in theater productions.
TV Roles for Jillie Mack
In 1984, Jillie made her debut on film with a cameo on her husband’s show Magnum PI. She made an appearance as an English girl at a party in the episode Rembrandt’s Girl. The following year, she returned to the show as Sally Ponting, played by Professor Jonathan Higgins.
Mack has made appearances in television series other than Magnum, P.I., such as Tales from the Dark Side and Adventures of Nicholas at Roaring Camp.
The popular sitcom Frasier is also mentioned in Jillie’s tiny screen credit. She played Charlotte in the Police Story episode. Her final on-screen appearance was in the 2002 episode of Chaos Theory from the NBC series ER. Additionally, she starred in the 1991 TV film Silverfox.
Mack Almost Had A Solo Program
Mack was also considering a regular part in the TV adaptation of the previously mentioned movie, Silverfox. A former secret service agent who became a government spy and couldn’t seem to retire was the subject of an unsold television pilot.
James Coburn, star of The Magnificient Seven, portrayed the main character of the series, with Jillie Mack slated to play Joanie, one of the female stars. Regretfully, the show was never given an air date.
Where Did Jillie Mack & Tom Selleck Meet?
In 1983, Mack met Tom Selleck, who would become her husband, when the 38-year-old divorcee was shooting Lassiter on location in London.
Schleeck had recently broken up with actress Mimi Rogers, who was once married to Tom Cruise. Additionally, he had separated from his ten-year-old wife, Jacquelyn Ray, a year before. Mack, meantime, was playing Rumpleteazer with the musical Cats.
Schleck was invited to see the show by his colleagues. He spent night after night in the West End after seeing the show, telling fellow Lassiter actress Jane Seymour how wonderful the show was.
However, Tom had thought Jillie Joan Mack, who was 25 years old at the time, was more intriguing. Selleck encountered Mack backstage, according to an AARP report from 2015, but he lacked the confidence to ask her out.
Rather, it was Jillie who eventually questioned him, “Would you like to get together for a cocktail?” Mack had no idea who Tom was when she first saw him since three months prior, someone had stolen her television.
According to People Magazine, their relationship progressed swiftly. One evening, after supper, they continued their conversation. Mack traveled to the United States with the Friends alumna when her contract expired.
Jillie and Selleck Got Married and Used Different Names
Aug. 1987 saw the marriage of Mack and Selleck. The couple’s surprise covert wedding caught both entertainment media and fans off guard.
They maintained the secrecy of their marriage for nearly a whole month. Later, Bob, Selleck’s brother, revealed to Tom and Mack that they were married in Incline Village, Nevada, at the Dream Maker, an open-air wedding chapel near Lake Tahoe.
Bob was a real estate professional who handled all of their wedding planning. They exchanged vows in a double-ring, nondenominational, $75 ceremony held in a Victorian-style chapel.
On the day of the wedding, Jillie obtained the $27 marriage license from the Washoe County Clerk’s Office in Reno. At nine twenty, Jillie and the Emmy winner, posing as “Tom Jenkins” and “Suzie Mark,” exchanged nuptials.
Their minister seemed to have been unaware of their precise identity until a few minutes before the service. The actor, who is currently 77 years old, made a lot of effort to hide the ceremony.
In addition, Selleck only had Polaroid pictures made of the wedding, which prevented the press from seeing negative images. Selleck’s siblings and parents, Robert and Martha, are among the attendees.
The daughter of Jillie Mack and her husband Tom Selleck
Hannah Margaret Selleck, Mack, and Selleck’s only child, was born in December 1988, a year after their nuptials.
In addition, Selleck’s adopted son Kevin, who is the biological son of his first wife and model Jacqueline Ray from a prior relationship, has AD Julie as his stepmother.
Selleck and Ray had been married for ten years.
After the birth of their daughter, Jillie, and Selleck adjusted to a ranch lifestyle.
Jillie and Mack purchased a 65-acre ranch in Ventura County, California, following the birth of their daughter. In a previous interview, Tom stated that he and his spouse believed that purchasing the ranch would provide Hannah with the ideal upbringing.
To spend more time with his new wife and child, Selleck resigned from Magnum PI and reduced his working hours during this period. Mack and her spouse have consistently provided their daughter with excellent parental support.
When Hannah was a child, Selleck told the New York Daily News in 1999 that they never took any action or made any decisions without first talking to one other.
The actor went on to say that even though they didn’t agree if one of them decided on Hannah, the other parent fully supported it. Now that she is an adult, Hannah wants to become an equestrian.
Tom Selleck Resigned From Magnum PI To Be With His Wife Jillie Mack In 1988, following the birth of their daughter Hannah, Selleck made a significant step back from the public eye by purchasing the California ranch.
According to the Sacketts actor in an interview,
“To start a family, I left Magnum.” Although getting off the train took a while, this property has aided in my efforts to maintain equilibrium.
Mack’s spouse went on to elaborate on his reasons for leaving Magnum PI with People in 2020, saying,
“It’s critical to look after your marriage. I believe that having desired time off from work has helped with that.
Naturally, these days, when Selleck isn’t in New York City filming Blue Bloods for CBS, he’s at his Ventura, California, ranch with Jillie.
How Did Mack and Selleck Stay Together For Such A Long Time?
Selleck stated that every year that has gone by in his more than three-decade marriage to Jillie Mack has been “more satisfying.”
In February 2022, the Mr. Baseball star told the Closer magazine’s US version,
“Any relationship’s infatuation phase doesn’t last forever, but it can develop into something.” It simply gets more fulfilling. You develop into real partners.
In October 2015, Tom stated in an earlier interview with Entertainment Tonight that Jillie is more than just his wife—she is his “friend.” She had a type of joie de vivre, he said, an “effervescent quality that just lights up a room,” according to him.
Mack’s Water Stealing Lawsuit With Her Husband
In July 2015, Jillie made headlines when she and her spouse Tom were accused of stealing truckloads of water from hydrants for their ranch in California.
The complaint against the pair was brought by the Calleguas Municipal Water District in Ventura County. The lawsuit claimed that the couple had sent trucks to their avocado field at least twelve times between 2013 and 2015.
According to the accusations, the two proceeded to steal tank loads from Thousand Oaks to hydrants in the Selleck Property at Hidden Valley in Westlake Village, even after receiving warnings from the Water District in 2015.
In answer, Tom stated that he and his spouse, Jillie, were lawfully purchasing the water from a building business. The parties arrived at a settlement, as later reported by the Los Angeles Times. Tom is said to have settled the claim against him for $21,000. However, the settlement’s complete disclosure was kept secret.
