In October 1972, he made his professional stage debut as a college student in Rain, based on W. Somerset Maugham’s short story. He returned to Texas and began working in a Dallas-area playhouse. Beaver moved to New York City in 1979, where he worked onscreen continuity both in stock and on tour, as well as writing plays and working on a memoir of actor George Reeves.
