“And now we have percussionist Jim Gordon, who was in Derek and the Dominoes W EC, and my tutor, the late Carl Radle, who are both pictured in this image. Jim was a brilliant percussionist, but he suffered with mental illness and spent the majority of his time in prison after murdering his mother. A calamity for everyone. Please say hi for me, Carl Dean, and I hope he’s pleased.”

Matt Tecu, an additional percussionist, uploaded two images of Gordon on Facebook and referred to him as a “renowned drummer” and one of his all-time favorites. The message continued by stating:

“He performed on countless tracks by performers we all appreciate, like The Wrecking Crew, Steely Dan, Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, Frank Zappa, Carly Simon, Carol King, Leon Russell, Bob Dylan, Motown, etc. Several years were spent battling mental illness. I’m using one of his percussion kits to record.”

Jim Gordon gained notoriety as a member of Derek and the Dominos

Jim Gordon, who was born on 14 July 1945 and attended Grant High School before joining the Everly Brothers, was born on 14 July 1945.

Despite being only 17 years old at the time, he rose to prominence in the music industry after contributing to several of the group’s records.

While on tour with Delaney & Bonnie, he met Eric Clapton, Carl Radle, and Bobby Whitlock, which led to the formation of Derek and the Dominos in 1970.

Before releasing Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, which received unfavorable reviews and commercial success, the group was only active for one year.

Despite the fact that Derek and the Dominos disbanded in 1971, Gordon continued to perform for other performers, such as Dave Mason and toured with numerous groups.

He appeared on The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys, Nilsson Schmilsson, Bongo Rock, and other recordings. In the 1970s, he toured with Johnny Rivers and performed on songs including “Rikki, Don’t Lose That Number.” He was the percussionist with SHF, also known as the Souther Hillman Furay Band.

Jim Gordon murdered his mother

In June 1983, Jim Gordon murdered his mother, Osa Marie Gordon, claiming that a voice instructed him to do it.

Subsequently, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, from which he had been exhibiting symptoms for a long period while he denied himself food, sleep, and relaxation.

After serving his 16-year term, Gordon was eligible for release in July 1984, but it was regularly denied for a variety of reasons. His most recent release occurred in March 2018, and he was scheduled for another in March 2021.
