According to Lycett, one joke or a fragment of a joke angered the individual. The comedian stated in a post on Instagram:
A few weeks ago, someone who attended one of my tour performances was offended by one of the jokes. And their very natural response was to call the police.”
Lycett continued by stating that the police were “nice” but felt forced to investigate because of the claim.
The Got Your Back singer stated that the investigation required him to provide “a statement clarifying the joke’s meaning for them.” In the post, the British television personality also highlighted:
“Using the phrase ‘big donkey d*ck’ in a message to a police investigator was a lot of fun.”
The comedian regarded the joke in question as one of the best he had ever written. Joe Lycett joked in his post that his statement would remain on the tour until he was incarcerated.
His current stand-up comedy tour will continue through September, with the final performance slated for London.
Lycett refused to reveal any information about the play throughout the current tour, which sparked the police investigation. Yet, according to GQ, it was the Belfast Waterfront Hall event held on June 8.
According to the journal, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) indicated that the complaint was lodged as a result of the aforementioned program.
According to both GQ and Joe Lycett himself, the investigation has been concluded. The screenshot of the purportedly official police email contains the following text:
“Thank you very much for your aid today; it is greatly appreciated. I can attest that the police have closed the investigation.”
Prior conflicts involving Joe Lycett
Lycett had a controversial appearance on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch in the United Kingdom last year. The show’s host questioned Lycett about a single-use plastic bottle that appeared in one of the Instagram images of his garden.
The British celebrity left the show after providing a humorous response.
Several fans speculated at the time that the mention of Steph McGovern’s single-use plastic bottle on the program prompted Lycett’s departure, as he had previously pledged to stop using single-use plastic.
Joe Lycett legally changed his name in opposition to the German luxury fashion firm Hugo Boss prior to the aforementioned disagreement.
The company was accused at the time of sending cease-and-desist letters to small businesses and nonprofit organizations with the term “boss” in their names.
The company later addressed the problem, noting that they had reached a mutually agreeable resolution with one of the companies they had prohibited from using the name.
