Joel Madden’s career began in 1995 when he was 16 when he formed a band with his brother Benji and a friend.The Maddens eventually hired associate high schoolers like Aaron Escolopio, Paul Thomas, and Billy Martin to help them establish their brand as Good Charlotte.

The name of this band was inspired by Carol Beach York’s children’s book Good Charlotte: Girls of the Good Day Orphanage. In the 2001 film Not Another Teen Movie, this vocalist and the other members of Good Charlotte played the band on the school walkway. Following that, he appeared in a cameo role in Fat Albert in 2004 and collaborated with his brother Benji in Material Girls in 2006.

Aside from his major works, he co-founded the clothing line MADE Clothing with two brothers, Benji and Josh. This label is no longer in business, and the clothing line was renamed DCMA Collective in early 2006.
