Uncertainty is the reason for Harwood’s resignation, but according to his contract, he has some time left with the business. They were also notified of CNN’s decision last month, according to a source.

John left CNN after Brian Stelter’s departure and the cancellation of his program, Reliable Sources. The business executives at Warner Bros. Discovery instructed CNN’s new president, Chris Licht, to eliminate opinion-based programming and focus more on hard news.

John Harwood’s career at CNN

John Harwood departed CNBC in January 2020 to join CNN. In 2019, he was notorious for criticizing President Donald Trump and the Republican Party as fundamentally broken. Even since Joe Biden became president, Harwood has provided political analysis.

During his primetime address on September 1, Biden described MAGA Republicans as a threat to the democratic ideals of the United States. Harwood agreed and remarked:

Biden’s view that Trump and conservative Republicans pose a threat to American democracy is undeniable.

On his final appearance on CNN on September 2, he remarked that such work is challenging for journalists. He said:

“We have been taught that there are two political parties with opposing ideas, and we do not take sides in their genuine differences. But that is not the subject of our discussion. These are genuine variations. The Republican Party is being headed by a charlatan.”

Every aspect of John Harwood is well-known

In high school, John Harwood worked as a copyboy for the Washington Star. After graduating from college, Harwood worked for the St. Petersburg Times before reporting on the final years of apartheid in South Africa.

In 1991, Harwood served as a White House correspondent and Capitol Hill correspondent for the Wall Street Journal. He was named political editor and chief political correspondent in 1997. He joined CNBC’s main Washington correspondent in March 2006.

John has appeared on Washington Week on PBS, Meet the Press on NBC, and Morning Joe on MSNBC. He moderated the Republican presidential primary debate on CNBC in October 2015.

In February 2020, he was reprimanded for suggesting that President Donald Trump was suffering from serious psychological stress after the news conference following the United States Senate’s vote to exonerate him on both charges of impeachment.
