In 2010, Jon Bernthal married Erin Angle, his wife. But, the wedding would not have occurred if not for musician Willie Nelson. The Walking Dead actor was in a bar when he noticed his pals conversing with two women, so he joined them until he met his future spouse.
Bernthal stated to Men’s Health, “I had never seen somebody so beautiful.” He made friends with the young nurse at Georgetown University Hospital, and they began dating shortly thereafter.
As a young man in his 20s who “did a lot of foolish things,” Angle dumped him and moved to San Francisco.
To regain her, the actor would travel to the San Francisco Bay Area and leave flowers and poetry in her car. After Angle’s fury had calmed, he took her to the Fillmore to watch Nelson.
The actor snuck backstage, sent a note to the performer outlining his issue with his girlfriend, and begged that he and Angle play “Always on My Mind.” Fortunately, Nelson did, and that night they reconciled permanently.

Bernthal and his wife dated for several years before being married. They tied the knot and started a family. The couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Henry, in August 2011.
In January 2013, they welcomed their second son, Billy, and in 2015, they welcomed their daughter, Adeline. Bernthal won a role in the film First Man starring Ryan Gosling shortly after the birth of their daughter. Unfortunately, he withdrew from the project.
Afterward, the actor discussed his decision with Men’s Health. His daughter suffered a sudden seizure and lapsed into a coma, which was later revealed to be the result of encephalitis.
Adeline awoke three days later, unaware of her family and friends. Bernthal stated that his fiancée replied by “showering [their] daughter with affection at every turn.” He lauded his wife for saving the family from danger.
The actor told the magazine,
“People talk about courage like it’s fake macho bravado, but my wife didn’t flinch.” Thankfully, his daughter has recovered from the event.”

Bernthal’s schedule is undoubtedly challenging, given that he is married with three children. The actor stated in an interview with Insider that he stuck to one rule in order to balance his demanding work schedule with time for his family.
He ensured that he was completely focused on the task at hand. When he was with the children at home, he did not work or use his phone.
Yet, he gave his all at work in the hopes that his children would appreciate his efforts. The actor stated,
“I try to immerse myself completely and remain in it, and at the end of the day, I’m trying to build something in every character I help create and film I’m in.”
He continued by stating that each piece of art he created bore the names of his children. Hence, he took everything seriously and gave his all. Bernthal, on the other hand, acknowledged that it was his wife who made all of this possible.
