Jon Ralston was born in New York on July 13, 1959. American journalist and political commentator who is known for hosting his own talk show Ralston Live on PBS. He is also known for having launched The Nevada Independent which is a nonprofit news outlet. He is known for having been the first to tweet at the Nevada Democratic Convention in 2016 about Bernie Sanders supporters throwing chairs. He earned his BA in English from Cornell University and later his MA in Journalism from the University of Michigan. He then moved to Las Vegas where he started working as a police reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He then started writing for the Las Vegas Sun before publishing his first book The Anointed One: As Inside Look at Nevada Politics in 2000.

After completing his master’s degree, Ralston moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, to become a night-time police reporter for the 1984 Las Vegas Review. He was assigned to politics in 1986 and became a full-time political columnist for the paper in 1989. In September 2012, Ralston left the Sun of Las Vegas. Ralston appeared as an actor in the Amazon original Alpha House series in 2014. His KSNV Ralston Reports TV show ended on 12 December 2014.
He began writing for the Reno Gazette-Journal on January 7, 2015. As of 2016, he was mainly known in Nevada for his TV show, Ralston Live, a different e-mail newsletter called Flash, and a biweekly column for the Reno Gazette-Journal. His show was closed on June 21, 2016, by KLVX and KNPB.
