Eaton’s Long Criminal Record
Joseph Eaton, who was arrested for murdering his parents and their friends, has a 2008 criminal record in Maine, Florida, and Kansas. He was convicted of felony aggravated assault, domestic violence assault, aggression against a law enforcement officer, and felon-in-possession.
Maine State Police first listed Eaton as a Bowdoin resident, but a background check found his last known residence was the Maine State Prison in Warren. Eaton received an eight-month term for felony assault in jail in March 2022. He had previously been convicted of aggravated assault, OUI, and domestic violence assault in Maine.
Joseph Eaton’s Mental Health History
In 2017, Florida court documents show Joseph Eaton was evaluated for mental health, drug addiction, and domestic violence. Eaton acknowledged PTSD and bipolar disorder treatment during the assessment. The doctor’s assessment demonstrated Eaton’s history of aggressive and violent conduct against his ex-wife was linked to his alcohol use and controlling tendencies.
Eaton’s outbursts and aggression against his ex-wife suggested a fixation with her. The judge advised Eaton to finish a 26-week batterers’ intervention program and weekly Alcoholics Anonymous sessions. These suggestions show that Eaton had a history of mental health, drug misuse, and aggressive conduct, which may have led to his latest killings and shootings.
