On June 18, 2020, Richards and his girlfriend of almost six months, Barrett, announced their split in a YouTube video titled “We Broke up.” Josh’s self-titled YouTube channel featured a video of the ex-lovebirds seated on the floor facing the camera.
“So, basically, Josh broke up with me,” Nessa explained at the beginning of the video. She went on to claim that they chose to divorce to focus on themselves and their careers. She went on to say:
“We did long distance for over a year and it was very public so I guess we didn’t understand the severity of it.”
Meanwhile, Josh stated that they kept their romance quiet for a few months due to the uncertainty of their relationship. He went on to say that he and Nessa chose to go public with their separation after reports about their relationship began to circulate on the internet.
Josh emphasizes in the video that they were truly in a relationship, but there are no hard feelings following the breakup. Furthermore, he stated that they would stay friends after the divorce.
Josh declared his love for Barrett on Instagram.
Josh and Nessa Barrett were rumored to be dating for quite some time until the former revealed their relationship on Instagram in January 2020. Josh previously tweeted a snapshot of Barrett sitting on his lap. In the caption, he wrote “Mine.”

Nessa had also proclaimed their romance on Instagram, but she canceled her account shortly thereafter. In the meantime, Nessa reactivated her Instagram account and shared a romantic pair shot with the message “Mine forever.”
They began dating in October of 2019.
A few weeks after Josh made their relationship public, he posted a video on his YouTube account in which he and Nessa answered fans’ questions about their relationship.
When a fan questioned when they started dating, Richards replied that their first date was on October 19. Meanwhile, one of their followers inquired as to why they had kept their romance hidden for so long.
In response to the inquiry, Josh stated that he was the one who wanted to keep their relationship private because he wanted to ensure that Nessa was as serious as he was.
He went on to say that he knew he wanted to be with Nessa, but he wasn’t sure “if she wanted that too or if it was just a fling.”
On Instagram, Josh celebrated his six-month anniversary with Nessa.
On April 19, 2020, Richards announced on Instagram that he and his then-girlfriend Nessa had been together for six months. Josh posted a few of their images, as well as Nessa’s song and a short video showing the duo. He wrote in the caption:
“Happy 6-month birthday, mamas!” You are everything to me. I adore Janesa Barrett.”
