Since 2015, Oklahoma educator and politician Joy Lynn Hofmeister has served as the state’s Superintendent of Public Instruction.
On January 12, Hofmeister was inaugurated as Oklahoma’s 14th State Superintendent after defeating Democratic candidate John Cox in the general election and Republican incumbent Janet Barresi in the primary.

Gerald Hofmeister, the spouse of Joy Hofmeister, serves as a municipal magistrate in Tulsa.
Each of Hofmeister’s four offspring attended Jenks Public Schools in Oklahoma. Hofmeister was a member of the Jenks Public Schools Foundation’s executive committee.

According to reports, some Democrats believe Hofmeister would be the best candidate to appeal to moderate Republicans willing to cross party lines.
She asserted that abortion is a “healthcare decision between a woman and her doctor, and it must remain that way” before the repeal of Roe v. Wade in 2022.
