When he was just seventeen, his parents, Juanita and Phil, passed away from AIDS-related diseases, leaving him to be raised by his grandparents, Roberta and Warnick Graves.
Juan was born and raised in Baltimore. He started playing basketball at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, Maryland.
Juan was chosen in the second round of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards after finishing his studies.
Before he announced his retirement from professional basketball in 2011, he had played for a number of NBA clubs, including the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers, and Washington Wizards.
