Vanoy first met Jordan in 1984 at a Bennigan’s restaurant in Chicago, but they didn’t start dating until two years later. Jordan proposed to her at Chicago’s Nick’s Fish Market in 1987, and while she agreed, their engagement was shortly called off for unknown reasons. However, she became pregnant a year later, and the pair married on September 2, 1989, in the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, ten months after she gave birth to their first child, a son called Jeffrey Michael Jordan.
Marcus James Jordan, their second son, was born in 1990, and Jasmine Michael Jordan, their daughter, was born two years later. Vanoy filed for divorce after 17 years of marriage in 2002, citing irreconcilable disagreements, but she quickly withdrew the suit as the pair reconciled. She did, however, petition for divorce again, which was finalized in late 2006. Their divorce made headlines not just because it involved a basketball star, but also because it was the highest celebrity divorce settlement at the time, with Vanoy receiving $168 million. In addition, she was granted full custody of their three children by the court.
