Wilson was staying at a friend’s house on May 11, 2022, when Armstrong was accused of shooting Wilson twice in the head.

Armstrong, who is accused of first-degree murder, has entered a not-guilty plea. If found guilty, he may spend up to 99 years in jail.

Trial and Verdict of Kaitlin Armstrong: What Did She Do?

Prosecutors claim that Armstrong developed an obsession with Strickland, a fellow rider whom she had dated for around a year.

They said that Armstrong tracked Strickland’s whereabouts using a GPS app and discovered that, on the day of the murder, he had gone on a date with Wilson.

Wilson went for a swim and supper with Strickland, whom she had met via the cycling club before he dropped her off at her friend’s place.

According to the prosecution, Armstrong drove to Wilson’s residence and waited for her to leave.

Wilson’s cries and the sound of two gunshots were heard on security tape, they said, and then Armstrong’s Jeep was heard driving away.

They said that Armstrong searched for how to sell a vehicle fast, how to get rid of gunshot residue, and how to go abroad without a passport in her search history after the murder.

Geoffrey Puryear, Armstrong’s defense lawyer, said that there was insufficient evidence to connect Armstrong to the murder scene and that the surveillance tape was too grainy to clearly identify the gunman or the car.

He said that before the murder, Armstrong had made trip plans to Costa Rica since he loved to travel.

Additionally, he said that Armstrong had no reason to murder Wilson since she and Strickland were not exclusive and had an open relationship. Starting on November 1, 2023, and ongoing as of right now, is the trial.

Witnesses, such as Strickland, who stated that he had broken up with Armstrong a few days before the murder and that he had affections for Wilson, will be presented to the jury.

Wilson’s bike, DNA samples, and gunshot casings from the crime scene will all be shown to the jury.

Kaitlin Armstrong’s Arrest Charge and Mugshot

Following a 43-day search, Armstrong was apprehended in Costa Rica on July 23, 2022. It was rumored that she had colored her hair and had cosmetic surgery to alter her look.

She had also traveled to Costa Rica using her sister’s passport, having left New York. When U.S. Marshals and local authorities found her, she was lodging at a hostel.

After being extradited to the US, Armstrong was accused of first-degree murder and fleeing the country illegally in order to evade punishment.

Her bail was set at $3.5 million, and she was being detained at the Travis County Jail in Austin. She entered a not-guilty plea to each allegation.

Armstrong made an attempt to get out of detention on October 11, 2023, while in Austin for a doctor’s visit.
