During his final year of university, he took on a new role and added that to his résumé. The Bruins went 123-5 during his four years there, winning championships in 1979, 1981, and 1982. In 1979 and 1982, they went the entire year without losing a single game.

He was a four-year All-American and the tournament’s MVP in both the 1981 and 1982 seasons at the collegiate level. In June of 1983, he received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from UCLA, where he maintained a 3.55-grade point average. His jersey was retired in 1993 after he was admitted into the UCLA Hall of Fame in 1992.
