Karina Armando DUI Led To Arrest: What Happened?

On May 21, 2023, in the evening, an incident on SR 36 northbound led to the arrest of Karina Armando, a 20-year-old teen from New Jersey, on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). While on a normal patrol at 6:17 PM, Patrolman Alvator noticed a 2009 Dodge Caliber driving erratically on SR 36 heading north.

The car was observed tailgating and swerving behind another vehicle. Patrolman Alvator stopped the Dodge Caliber close to Orchard Street and SR 36, engaged his emergency lights, and showed concern for the safety of the general public. Patrolman Alvator got close to the car and saw that Karina Armando was driving it with Olivia Morrow, age 24.

Armando said that he had drunk at Donovan’s Reef, a well-liked Sea Bright beachside pub, earlier. Patrolwoman Nicole Curley arrived to provide backup, and things quickly got out of hand. Patrolman Alvator asked Armando to complete field sobriety exercises because of her advanced age. Concerns were raised about Olivia Morrow’s combative and uncooperative conduct during the field sobriety testing.

Because Morrow continued to act in this way despite being warned that she would face charges of obstruction of justice, her boyfriend had to step in and take her away from the scene for security. Field sobriety exercises conducted by Armando revealed a troubling level of impairment.

In the One Leg Stand exam, she found it difficult to stay balanced; in the Walk and Turn test, she was unable to walk heel to toe; and in the Alphabet test, she recited the alphabet with difficulty. Her inconsistent counting was also exposed by the Finger Dexterity test. Patrolman Alvator decided to detain Karina Armando for driving while intoxicated.

Karina Armando Arrest Aftermath

Karina Armando was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), and her interaction with law enforcement following her detention provides insight into the actions performed by the authorities during the procedural process. Karina’s legal path commenced on May 21, 2023, when Highlands Police Department Patrolman Robert Alvator pulled her over for driving erratically.

Since the local station was unable to perform the breathalyzer test, Karina was taken to the Atlantic Highlands Police Department. She was given the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators by Patrolman Alvator, which detailed her rights and the repercussions of refusing to comply. Karina was first reluctant to give samples and then gave a confusing answer. Interestingly, she cited her Miranda rights and declined to answer any questions about her arrest.

Karina’s reluctance to provide breath samples was painstakingly documented by Patrolman Cunha and Sergeant Elmer. Patrolman Alvator then accompanied her back to the police car, and the procedure proceeded at the Highlands Police Department. She underwent additional processing there, which is a crucial phase of the legal process.

Olivia Morrow’s boyfriend signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Karina’s behalf, allowing her to be released. Nevertheless, Karina’s actions had further repercussions. Karina received multiple summonses from Patrolman Alvator for a variety of offenses, such as driving while intoxicated, refusing to submit to a chemical test, driving recklessly, entering marked lanes, and following too closely.
