Katherine’s background and what sparked her interest in psychiatry are unknown – she spent her entire childhood in the United States with her parents, and after graduating from a local high school, enrolling at the University of Wisconsin’s Medical School and graduating in 1993 – she went on to complete her residency at Stanford University’s School of Medicine.
Katherine Sanborn- Relationship, Married Life
Katherine is married to Phillip Jerome Hellmuth, an American professional poker player – unfortunately, Phil is known to become nuts when the situation at the table is not as he would like it to be, and despite being a psychiatrist, Katherine can’t help him control his emotions. Norman Chad, a renowned ESPN poker pundit, termed Katherine “a saint and an angel” for being able to deal with her husband, who has a temper problem. When he lost around, he became enraged and approached her, and she calmed him down by saying, ‘Let it go.’ You’re well aware that you’re not out. You’re not going anywhere. Allow it to go. You’re not out, and anything might change. But you have to let it go.’ While her husband enjoys being the center of attention and is a well-known public figure, Katherine despises being on camera yet attends his major poker games regardless.
The couple met at the University of Wisconsin while both were students there – they dated for several years before marrying just one year after Phil won the World Series of Poker Main Event in 1989, the youngest person ever to do so – and the couple exchanged vows in 1990. Even though he has a temper, Phil is known for never cheating on his wife – he enjoys going to clubs where he is typically treated like a VIP, and many attractive females flirt with him because of his riches, but he loves his wife the most and would never do anything to hurt her.
They have two children, Phil III and Nick, who are no longer children but have their own families. Katherine and Phil are currently residing in Palo Alto, California, and are claimed to be enjoying their lives there. According to unofficial sources, Phil is attempting to persuade his wife to relocate to Las Vegas so that he can be closer to the poker tables, while Katherine prefers to remain in Palo Alto.
