Kathy Hochul is an American lawyer who now serves as New York’s lieutenant governor. She previously served as the United States representative in New York from 2011 to 2013. She was also elected as the district’s first Democrat in 40 years. Kathy served as Erie County’s country clerk from 2007 until 2011. Prior to this, she was a member of the Hamburg City Council, a practicing attorney, and a legislative aide. She has also worked as a government relation professional in addition to all of these responsibilities. Following Cuomo’s resignation, Democrat Kathy Hochul took over as New York’s first female governor, vowing to put an end to “distractions.”

Kathy Hochul’s Professional Career
Kathy Hochul began working at a Washington, DC law firm shortly after graduating from law school, but quickly became dissatisfied with the work given there. After that, she worked as a legal counsel and legislative assistant to John LaFalce (US Representative) and Daniel Moynihan (US Senator), as well as with the New York State Assembly, before running for governor. During the early stages of her political career, she became active with local affairs. In 1994, she was elected to the Hamburg City Council as a Democratic and Conservative Party candidate. She gained that post and remained on the board for nearly 13 years, until 2007. While in this capacity, she spearheaded numerous campaigns to have toll booths removed.
Kathy Hochul was appointed as Erie County clerk David Swarts’ deputy in May 2003. When Swarts resigned in 2007, Governor Eliot Spitzer appointed her to the position. Kathy Hochul spoke out against Spitzer’s decision to enable undocumented immigrants to seek driver’s licenses without first obtaining a social security card in an intervention. Later that year, she was chosen to finish Swart’s term. She was re-elected on four ballot lines: Working Families Party, Independence Party, Democratic Party, and Conservative Party. She was elected with 80 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Clifton Bergfeld.
Allegations Against Cuomo
Kathy recently grabbed center stage in August 2021. She accepted the burden of leading the case of Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was discovered to be implicated in sexual harassment claims, and she was assigned to conduct the five-month inquiry. Kathy was assigned to investigate whether he should have resigned or not. The investigation’s findings were submitted in a 165-page report, which revealed that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 separate women.
He harassed his present and past employees, and one of them responded publicly with her charges and statements. Cuomo was accused of harassing these 11 women by engaging in unwelcome and consensual touching. He was also expected to make sexual remarks that made the workplace unfriendly for the staff.
