According to a statement issued by his family, former American Solicitor General Ken Starr passed away on September 13, 2022, at the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston.
Starr, the prosecutor whose criminal investigation resulted in the 1998 impeachment of former President Bill Clinton, passed away at the age of 76 from surgical complications.
Starr will be buried at Austin’s Texas State Cemetery, according to PR News Wire. He is survived by his wife, Alice, and three kids. Randall, one of Ken’s kids, reportedly released a statement that read:
We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beautiful and devoted grandfather and father, whom we admired for his unwavering work ethic but who always put his family first.
Mark Lanier, a former coworker, revealed to Politico that the former had spent almost four months in the critical care unit of the Houston hospital.
On July 21, 1946, Ken Starr was born in Vernon, Texas. Before enrolling at George Washington University, he attended Harding University. Additionally, he studied at Duke University and Brown University, where he received his law degree.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Starr had a $3 million net worth at the time of his passing. In 1994, Starr was engaged by the US Department of Justice to look into the Whitewater land investment scheme, which involved Bill and Hillary Clinton.
During his five-year investigation, Starr looked into several phony real estate transactions involving one of Clinton’s associates, looked into the removal of documents from Vincent Foster’s office after his suicide, and—most importantly—found proof that Bill Clinton had sex with Monica Lewinsky, a former intern at the White House.
Following the revelation of his affair, Ken Starr delivered a report to the US House of Representatives in which he accused Bill Clinton of lying under oath and failing to carry out his constitutional duty to uphold the law. Bill Clinton was removed from office by the US House of Representatives in 1998.
In a 2018 CBS interview, Ken Starr admitted that he felt horrible for the suffering that some people went through when Clinton’s relationship with Monica Lewinsky came to light. He continued by saying “it had to be done,” refusing to apologize to her for the consequences. After news of Starr’s passing, Monica Lewinsky turned to Twitter to vent her emotions.
“As I’m sure many can understand, my thoughts about Ken Starr evoke conflicted emotions… But maybe more importantly, it’s a tragic loss for those who cared about him.
The 2020 impeachment trial for former President Donald Trump will use Starr as his legal counsel. Politico claims that during the trial, Starr gave a memorable speech in which he stated,
When it was determined that Baylor University in Waco, Texas, had improperly handled allegations of sexual assault against its football team, Starr was compelled to step down from his position as president.
Starr, on the other hand, continued his legal career after leaving the institution. He wrote numerous books, lectured on constitutional law, and worked as a legal analyst for Fox News.
