In response, commencing on July 22, 2023, the RCMP, Search and Rescue teams, and community volunteers launched widespread ground searches in the south Beaumont region. Sadly, though, the hunt was called off on July 24, 2023, with the discovery of Lynn’s deceased body. The community was tight, and word of her murder spread quickly, leaving friends and neighbors in mourning for a loved one.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit assumed control of the investigation to determine the cause of Oberly’s death after the disturbing discovery. They continued their investigation while requesting assistance from the neighborhood as part of their investigation. About this tragic crime, Beaumont resident Kenneth Skelly, 43, was charged with second-degree murder.
Due to the seriousness of the charge, he was placed in police remand. The Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc will host a court hearing to hold him responsible for his claimed crimes on August 3, 2023.
