Breonna Taylor and Kenneth Walker
Walker and Breonna Taylor were cohabiting at her Louisville apartment at the time of her passing. A few months before the death of her girlfriend, the couple was dating.
On March 13, 2020, just after midnight, Louisville police invaded Breonna Taylor and Kenneth Walker’s apartment by using a battering ram to force open the door. This radically altered Kenneth Walker’s love life.
Two males were under investigation by the authorities because they may have been narcotics dealers. According to reports, police said that one of the guys used the apartment to receive parcels, which led Jefferson County Circuit Judge Mary M. Shaw to sign a “no-knock” search order that included the Taylor/Walker residence. Before departing and going to a known drug house, the alleged drug dealer was seen entering Taylor’s apartment one January afternoon with a USPS package, according to the arrest request. A US Postal Inspector reportedly confirmed that the guy had been receiving parcels at the property. According to Postal Inspector Tony Gooden, his office informed the police that no packages of interest were being sent there.
In the meantime, Walker was accused of attempting to kill the police officer and assaulting him. Tom Wine, the Attorney General, declared in a statement that he would not be filing charges against Taylor’s partner on May 26, 2020.
The aftermath of Breonna Taylor’s Death
When a protester was shot and died in Jefferson Park on Saturday while calling for justice in Taylor’s death, the unrest in Louisville came to a head. The park will be closed starting at 11 p.m. as a result of the incident, the LMPD stated in a statement on Sunday. to 6 a.m. daily.
As protesters demanded justice for the recent police-involved killings of Black men and women around the nation, Taylor’s death became the center of attention on a global scale. According to a police affidavit for the raid’s search warrant, Taylor’s home was included in a no-knock order because officers believed a guy involved in a narcotics ring was having shipments of drugs delivered to her residence.
When the police entered, they found Taylor’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker, according to CNN. When the officers entered the residence, he dialed 911. The lawsuit claims that he had a permit to carry a gun. Police said that he shot at the officers executing the search warrant.
Two months later, Taylor’s family also brought a wrongful death action, alleging battery, wrongful death, use of excessive force, negligence, and gross negligence. The lawsuit also claimed that because a wanted person had been apprehended somewhere before the warrant’s execution, police should have halted their search of Taylor’s flat.
