Kevin Afghani was diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), an uncommon ailment of the skin and mucous membranes that may be brought on by an infection or a medicine response, according to his official website.
SJS may damage the eyes, mouth, throat, and genitalia in addition to causing blistering and peeling skin.
It may also result in joint discomfort, exhaustion, and fever. Complications from SJS may include organ damage, dehydration, infection, or even death.
Afghani said that since assuming the roles of Mario and Luigi, he had been suffering from anxiety and has been taking medicine to treat it.
He said that after taking the drug for a few days, he began to feel ill and had no clue he was allergic to it.
The actor said that in addition to getting a rash on his face and chest, he also had red, swollen eyes.
The actor said that after visiting the ER, he was given an SJS diagnosis and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
Kevin went on to explain that he was treated with intravenous fluids, antibiotics, steroids, and painkillers throughout his two weeks in the intensive care unit.
He said that several skin grafts were required to restore the damage after losing the majority of the skin on his face and torso.
Kevin Afghani said that the inflammation brought on by SJS had also damaged his voice cords, caused eyesight loss, and impaired hearing. He claimed he felt fortunate to be alive since the death rate from SJS ranges from 10% to 30%.
