Kevin is the youngest of three sons born to his father, Jerald Wayne Richardson, Sr., a handyman and outdoor enthusiast, and his mother, Ann C. Richardson, a housewife. Kevin grew up on the family farm with his two older brothers, Tim and Jerald Wayne, Jr. He then lived in Cathedral Domain Camp, where his father worked. Following graduation, Kevin relocated to Orlando, Florida, where he worked as a model, songwriter, and dance instructor until landing a job as a performer at Walt Disney World, where he was in charge of delivering backstage tours. Aside from that, he played Aladdin, Sebastian the Crab, Prince Eric, and one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Kevin returned home after learning that his father had colon cancer; his father died in 1991, and Kevin returned to Florida to further his career as a musician.
The Backstreet Boys
Kevin joined the boy band ‘Backstreet Boys’ in 1993, along with AJ McLean, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, and Kevin’s cousin Brian Littrell, whom he invited to join them.
In May 1993, they made their debut at SeaWorld Orlando. Their first song, “We’ve Got It Going On,” was published in 1995, and the band’s self-titled debut studio album was released in 1996, followed by their second album, “Backstreet Boys,” the following year (1997). Kevin left the band in 2006 to pursue an acting career, but he continued to perform with the band on occasion for the next year until he announced his comeback in 2012. They published their eighth studio album, “In A World Like This,” in 2013, and their follow-up, “DNA,” in 2019, which topped the US Billboard 200 chart. Kevin Scott Richardson made his cinematic debut in the comedic drama film “My Girl,” directed by Howard Zieff, in 1991. He has also appeared as a guest star in television shows such as “Sabrina The Teenage Witch,” “Arthur,” and “Fear Factor.”
In 2003, he landed the role of lawyer Billy Flynn in the Broadway production of the musical “Chicago,” following which he appeared with Ashton Kutcher in the MTV hidden camera reality show “Punk’d.” Kevin’s next role was as Clerk in the Hallmark Channel drama film “Love Takes Wing,” which was based on Janette Oke’s book.
