Keyboardist For Charlatans And Primal Scream Martin Duffy Passes Away At Age 55

Martin Duffy

At the age of 55, Martin Duffy passed away. He was a keyboard player for Primal Scream and The Charlatans. Prior to joining Primal Scream for their 1991 album Screamadelica, Duffy was a member of the cult 1980s indie band Felt.

In 1996, he began touring with The Charlatans. His passing was “another heartbreaking loss of a great soul,” according to their singer Tim Burgess.

Bobby Gillespie, the lead singer of Primal Scream, called Duffy a “soul brother” and a “really special character.”

The musically gifted individuals

Added him:

“He had a profound spiritual love and comprehension of music. Everything to him was music…

“Of all of us, Martin had the most musical talent. He had a God-given natural feel for all three genres, and his sound blended parts of country, blues, and soul.”

The singer went on to say:

“Martin also had a distinct sense of humor. He had a keen eye for the bizarre, the weird, and the absurd.

“He loved to play music and laugh. All of us in the Scream adored him. a lovely soul. He will be missed.”

Simone Marie Butler, the bassist for the trio, added:

“I already miss you, Duff, no words. The worst day ever, and as I write this, I’m in tears. x So cherished”

Duffy, a Birmingham native, contributed to every Primal Scream album in addition to appearing on Oasis, Chemical Brothers, and Beth Orton tracks.

When he was 18 years old, he responded to Lawrence, the band’s frontman, who had placed an advertisement asking, “Do You Want To Be A Rock ‘n’ Roll Star?”

After the death of their keyboardist Rob Collins in a vehicle accident three weeks before they were scheduled to open for Oasis at the renowned Knebworth concerts in 1996, he later joined The Charlatans.

When we lost Rob, Martin Duffy intervened to salvage The Charlatans, according to Burgess.

“He was a great friend and joined us when we played at Knebworth. He toured with me in my solo band as well, and he was fun to be around. Duffy, safe travels.”

“Our bright star”

On Burgess’ record company, Duffy also issued a solo album in 2014. He toured alongside Steve Mason of Edwyn Collins and the Beta Band, and his most recent live performance was with the American band Pere Ubu in October.

Gruff Rhys, a singer with the Super Furry Animals, was one of the others honoring the memory. On this very sad day, he tweeted: “Martin Duffy’s music has been with me since the 1980s. Sending all the best to Primal Scream & all his friends and family. Going to put some of his instrumental songs on.”

According to a family statement shared on Twitter by Duffy’s brother Steve, a BBC journalist, “Martin was the real deal, our bright star.” Everyone who knew Martin adored him.

After falling, Martin sustained brain damage and passed away quietly in the company of his loved ones, especially his cherished son Louie, they claimed.

His mother, brothers, extended relatives, and close friends all adored him.

The added text reads:

“He was musically gifted, but his gift with people was far greater. Martin, I adore you and am proud of what you have accomplished. We stand by you, brother xx”
