Lewis Hamilton is currently assigned to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. Hamilton already possesses six driver world championship titles, and given his current lead in the standings, it appears likely that he will add to that total. He would then match Michael Schumacher’s record of seven world championships with another victory.
During his rookie season with McLaren, Hamilton came close to winning the world championship. In his second season, he won his first and possibly most dramatic championship thanks to a last-lap overtake. Since joining Mercedes in 2013, he has amassed five championships.

Lewis Hamilton was born on January 7, 1985, to Carmen Larbalestier and Anthony Hamilton in Stevenage, England. Lewis is mixed-race because Carmen is white and Anthony is black, yet he self-identifies as black.
Lewis’s parents divorced when he was two years old, and he later lived with his mother and half-sisters until he was twelve. His father, stepmother Linda, and half-brother Nicholas were the next to welcome him into their homes.
Lewis was steadily moving up the racing ladder at that point and had already established himself as a potential Formula One driver. He was the best thing to come out of my marriage, Lewis’ mother told The Sun, adding that the divorce had no impact on Hamilton.
Lewis wasn’t damaged by [the separation]. He undoubtedly benefits from it more than he would have if we had remained partners in an unpleasant union. Tony aspired to be somebody, and he is now. That created a barrier between us because I preferred the tranquil life.
Lewis’s father worked four Jobs to support his Racing Career
Because racing is an expensive sport, Anthony briefly supported Lewis using the money he received from his job as an IT manager. He abandoned his work and took on smaller, more flexible tasks because his job did not permit him to accompany his son to races. It was a tough job, but it permitted him to travel with Lewis.
Fortunately, Anthony’s efforts paid off, and he was able to help Lewis all the way to Formula One with his backing. Lewis posted a vintage photo of his family on August 21st, 2020, along with the caption:
“So many of you may not know how I got there, but you see my accomplishments today. My father, a proud black man to the left, worked four jobs in the beginning to keep me racing. They kept us together during the difficult times, my two lovely mothers in this picture… The little guy, my amazing brother, motivated me and continues to inspire a lot of people today.
When Lewis won his seventh title, all of his and his father’s struggles suddenly came flooding back. Anthony Hamilton devised a smart plan to raise money for his kid by approaching sponsors and pleading with them to support the first Black F1 racer.
The strategy didn’t work, but Lewis joined F1 thanks to McLaren. According to Lewis, winning his seventh world title brought back every battle he had with his father:
“Everything that happened to my dad and me, including our trials and the moment we sang “We Are the Champions” after winning our first championship, simply flashed through my head. There were occasions when we questioned whether we would show up. Although they were scary times, he never once questioned me.
As they advanced in the motorsports ranks, Lewis and his father faced bigotry. After Lewis entered Formula 1, the bigotry persisted, and for a while, he refrained from speaking out about it. When the BLM movement started, Lewis was chosen to represent F1’s anti-racism stance.
