Former Malaga striker Sergio Contreras Pardo was detained in 2019 for his involvement in a drug trafficking scheme. The arrest took place following 11 operations involving 150 police officers across Spain that led to the detention of 20 people in different regions of Andalusia.
Sergio was arrested alongside his brother at their home in Estepona on suspicion of being a leader of a criminal organization. During the searches, a tonne of hashish, a cannabis resin, as well as cash and weapons, were found. He is now facing up to 16 years in prison and a $130,000 fine after almost four years on the lam for allegedly running a criminal organization that distributed opiates across Europe.
The following Monday, Koke and 17 other defendants are set to go on trial at Malaga’s Provincial Court. For crimes against public health and possessing weapons, the other accused could receive sentences ranging from one year to four years and six months in prison. The organization purportedly dealt with cannabis more frequently than any other narcotic.
