Kurt was supposed to have returned from a fishing excursion, so Atchison County officers were sent to the house after Kurt’s mother contacted 911 to report that she hadn’t heard from him.

After investigating the odor and removing the bedding from Kurt’s bed in the bedroom, deputies discovered his body.
According to Timothy Dennis, a former senior special agent with the KBI, the corpse may have been there for a week to 10 days at the most.
