Kyle Filipowski’s parents, Rebecca and David Filipowski, reared their four sons in New York. The Duke player comes from a family of athletes including his uncle and aunt.
Kyle Filipowski, Duke’s 7-foot-tall center, was trained to be a top athlete from a young age. His mother was severe on him and his twin brother, Matt, when it came to basketball. Rebecca, an exceptional athlete, is well-versed in basketball.
The twins’ father, David, was a college athlete and was the more accommodating of the two parents. Kyle has been a key player for Duke since signing in 2022. He has already won several trophies, including the ACC Preseason Player of the Year title for 2023.

Kyle Filipowski’s parents, Rebecca and David Filipowski, understand what it takes to be an excellent athlete. Rebecca and David led an athlete’s life and now inspire their children to be the best versions of themselves. Rebecca Filipowski, Kyle’s mother, was a standout athlete at Warwick High School, where she led the team to the 1982 Class B state championship.
Rebecca, a 6’4 forward, scored 2,164 points at Warwick before attending California State University, Long Beach in 1982. The team advanced to the Elite Eight, and Kyle had nothing but admiration for his mother’s basketball career. In an interview with On3, Kyle stated, “My mother, Rebecca Hagerdon, has accomplished a lot in her basketball career.”
He went on to describe her as follows: “She was a Parade All-American and put a ton of accolades on the wall with points and rebounds.” Rebecca’s high-flying basketball career terminated due to a catastrophic knee injury. Her enthusiasm for basketball, however, remained unwavering.
She may no longer be able to play basketball, but she chose to teach others. She viewed it as an opportunity to give back to the sport that had brought her so much success. She began coaching Physical Education at the Washingtonville School District in 1998 and remained there until 2003. From 2013 to 2021, she worked as a Transport Volunteer for the American Cancer Society while also working as a long-term substitute teacher in various school districts.
Kyle Filipowski’s Dad, David Filipowski, Played Basketball and Football
Kyle Filipowski’s father, David (often known as Dave) Filipowski, played NCAA basketball and football at Slippery Rock. His playing career at Slippery Rock began in 1979 and ended in 1981. David met his wife Rebecca at Warwick Valley High School. Their developing love rapidly became a lifelong commitment.
Kyle sees his father as the more laid-back of his parents. David was always eager to listen to his sons, and he taught them to be responsible young men. Their mother, on the other side, was very critical of the officials while her sons were playing. Kyle and his brother quickly learned to accept constructive criticism and to consider their mother’s words with a grain of salt.
In summary, Kyle believes their mother helped them maintain discipline. The Duke athlete adds that his mother holds him and his sibling to high standards and encourages them to achieve their full potential.
Kyle Filipowski Family and Ethnicity: Meet His Three Brothers
Kyle Filipowski was raised in an athletic household. Kyle was born in Middletown, New York, and has a white background. The Duke athlete’s parents were not the only athletes in the family. Randall Hagerdon, on his mother’s side, played basketball at Boston College, while Beverly Hagerdon attended Dartmouth from 1984 to 1988.
Randall (also known as Randy) attended LaGrange College and earned a Chemistry degree. Randall is currently a Process Engineer at Syensquo and has separated from his wife, Beverly. He has moved on with Rebecca, who you may find on his Facebook page.
Beverly has also moved past her previous relationship. After graduating from Dartmouth, Beverly got a master’s degree in International Relations from George Washington University and worked as a consultant for The International Foundation for Electoral Systems for 20 years.
Meet Kyle Filipowski Brothers Matt Filipowski
Many people may be aware of Kyle’s twin brother, Matt (sometimes known as Matthew) Filipowski. He currently attends Havard University and formerly attended Wilbraham and Monson Academy. He also attended Fordham Preparatory School for one year and received All-NEPSAC recognition in 2021.
Matt led his team to the 2020 NEPSAC AA championship and the National Prep Tournament Elite 8, as well as reaching 1000 points. Only a few individuals who pay close attention to Kyle are aware that the basketball star has two older brothers. His older brothers, Daniel and Taylor, have chosen to stay out of the public limelight.
Daniel, the eldest of the four, graduated from the University of Louisville. Daniel earned a degree in Sports and Fitness Management and then went to the University of Central Florida. He earned his MBA from UCF in 2019 and now works as the NIL Partnerships Marketing Coordinator at Raymond Representations.
Daniel may not have made a name for himself as a basketball star like his younger siblings, but he still plays the sport. Earlier this year, he offered to lead basketball camps at Stanford University and the University of Oregon Athletic Department. Daniel is on Facebook, but Taylor has decided not to use it.
