The wait is over, and the MVP is returning to Baltimore. The Ravens and Lamar Jackson have agreed in principle to a five-year contract extension.
The breakthrough eventually occurred on the first day of the 2023 NFL Draft, following approximately two years of negotiations. It’s the “pick” in the first round that the Ravens and their fans have been hoping for, and Jackson is reportedly the highest-paid player in NFL history.

Jackson is now the highest-paid player in NFL history, according to reports.
According to reports, his contract is worth $260 million, or an average of $52 million per year. It surpasses the recent contract extension inked by Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts for $255 million over five years ($51 million per year).
According to reports, Jackson also received $185 in total guarantees, while Hurts received $179.

Not too long ago, negotiations appeared to have stalled, but the Ravens remained determined to reach an agreement with their 26-year-old star quarterback.
Jackson stated on March 2 that he had requested a trade. The Ravens applied the non-exclusive franchise tag to him on March 7, enabling him to negotiate with other teams. Exactly one month ago, on March 27, Jackson made his trade request public.
There were no reported offers or proposed trades, and the Ravens continued their efforts to re-sign their former MVP.
Two weeks ago, the Ravens signed Odell Beckham Jr., which appeared to satisfy Jackson. Immediate connection ensued between the two parties. On April 17, the Eagles and Hurts reached an extension, which helped establish the parameters of the market for elite quarterbacks.
This offseason, Baltimore has been aggressive in enhancing Jackson’s supporting cast and will likely continue to do so in the draft. Together with the arrival of new Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken, this has led to a significant change in the offensive orientation of the Baltimore Ravens with Lamar Jackson at the helm.
There has never been any doubt regarding Jackson’s ability. He is one of the most dynamic and successful quarterbacks in the league, and he has helped the Ravens become one of the league’s finest teams over the past five years.
Jackson’s 45-16 record (.738) ranks fourth among quarterbacks who debuted in the Super Bowl era, behind only Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and Roger Staubach.
After a spectacular 2019 season, he was unanimously named NFL MVP. The Ravens have labored the past two seasons when Jackson has been injured, going 3-9 in his absence.
Now that Jackson has committed to Baltimore for the foreseeable future, the Ravens have their focal point in position and will attempt to overcome the remaining obstacle.
Jackson has another five years to help deliver the Super Bowl that he promised Baltimore when he was drafted five years ago.
