Laura Benanti, a Broadway performer, has stated that she performed earlier this week while experiencing a miscarriage.
“I sensed it would occur. The night before, it began quietly,” the Tony Award-winning actress wrote on Instagram.
“Had it been our first or second loss, I probably wouldn’t have been able to continue.
“Unfortunately, I am no stranger to the suffering and emptiness of miscarriage.”
She added,
“My husband and I have previously walked this path together.”
“However, this time we did so with some of the kindest, most loving individuals I will ever have the privilege of sharing space with,” she added.
Laura Benanti, 43, who has appeared on the television series Nashville and Supergirl, performed for 2,000 people on a Broadway-themed cruise alongside Alan Cumming and Jeremy Jordan.
She continued,
“Thank you to everyone in the audience for the grace that your presence afforded.”
For lifting me out of my despair during that holy hour, I am eternally grateful.
Thank you to my friends and fellow performers for rallying around me and accommodating my changing requirements with such graciousness.
She also thanked the band, personnel, and producers, as well as “that little soul” for choosing her as its temporary home.
One of her and her spouse Patrick’s two children were born via surrogate last year.
She continued,
“My husband and I are heartbroken, but we will get through this together, as we and so many others have in the past.”
“I share all of this not to elicit pity or attention, but to remind the countless individuals and families who have and will suffer in this manner that there is no shame in this kind of loss. That you do not stand alone. And also to recall me.”
There was support on Instagram, including from fellow cruiser and performer Randy Rainbow. He stated,
“You are extraordinary in every aspect. My deepest regards to you and Patrick.”
Benanti has been nominated for five Tony Awards, winning in 2008 for Gypsy.
