The United States’ Laura was born on August 17, 1975, in Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska, to Mary Bierman Kucera and David Kucera. Her parents reared her in a large family following her birth.

Her spirit was resilient enough to overcome the damaging shot and catch her breath. Not only did she survive the gunshot wound, but she also lived for four days while lying in October’s bitter cold wearing only a t-shirt and shorts. Regarding this, her mother stated,

Redmond called Brian a coward and a bully for his ruthless effort to kill in May 1995. He also sentenced him to 40 years in prison for the attempted kidnapping and 15 years for possessing a pistol.
