She was born Layla Reaves in 1976, the daughter of John Reaves, a well-known American football player who played 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), playing for teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Tampa Bay Bandits. Her mother’s identity is unknown, although it is known that her parents divorced while Layla was a child. Her father died in 2017 after struggling with addiction for many years.
Layla grew up in Gainesville, Florida, where she attended Bucholz High School before enrolling at the University of Florida.

Lane and Layla originally met in 1999 and hit it off right away. They got engaged in 2004 and married the following year. Their marriage lasted until 2016 when their divorce was one of the most publicized – their marriage ended badly, and the reason was Lane’s romance with his head coach’s daughter in 2015.
The couple had three children prior to their divorce, and Layla now has full custody of them. Layla obtained around 34.5 percent of Lane’s total income as part of the divorce settlement and now resides in Manhattan with her children.

Since then, he’s been the offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama, as well as the quarterback coach from 2014 to 2016, when he took over as head coach of the Florida Atlantic Owls.
He won C-USA Championships with them in 2017 and 2019, taking the team to No. 1 in the conference with records of 11-3 and 10-3. He did, however, leave Alabama in early December 2019 to speak with the University of Mississippi football team. He was hired as the 39th head coach of Ole Miss on December 9th, on a four-year contract for $16.2 million.
