Lee Da-hae, a seasoned Korean actor, has made headlines after announcing her engagement to K-pop sensation Se7en, her long-term partner of eight years. The couple announced their engagement on Instagram and said they planned to marry in May of this year.
Sports Chosun first announced their collaboration in 2016. However, the two were said to have been friends for years before falling in love. Many people are familiar with Se7en, who rose to international prominence during his heyday. Lee Da-hae, despite being a seasoned performer, may be unfamiliar to the global public.
Everything you need to know about South Korean actor Lee Da-hae
Lee Da-hae, née Byun Da-hye, is an Australian-Korean actor best known for his roles in K-dramas such as My Girl, Hotel King, and Good Witch. Lee moved to Australia when she was about 11 years old to finish her education, where she became fluent in both English and Chinese.
She then moved to Seoul with her mother to pursue a career in the performing arts. At the time, she was also accepted to Konkuk University, where she studied Theatre and Film. The actress made her acting debut after winning the 71st Miss Chunhyang Pageant in 2001.
The Chunhyang Festival revolves around a beauty pageant, and the winner is regarded as having the highest level of conventional attractiveness in South Korea. After winning the contest, she was able to land minor roles in K-dramas, but her major debut came in 2004 with the program Lotus Flower Fairy, in which she played the character of a Shaman’s daughter. This performance also earned her the title of Best New Actress at the prestigious Baeksang Arts Awards.
Her career took off after that, and she was cast as the lead in several plays, including Green Rose and Robber. Her performances in these K-dramas drew widespread praise and critical acclaim. My Girl aided the performer in establishing herself in the South Korean film industry.
After successfully establishing a fan base in Korea, Lee Da-hae turned her attention to China, where she grew an equally large fan base by delivering her lines in both Korean and Mandarin without the aid of a translator. This helped her land roles in C-dramas such as Love Actually and the Korean-Chinese drama Best Couple.
Lee Da-hae took a brief break from work around the time that reports of her dating Se7en surfaced. She made her big screen comeback in 2018 with the K-drama Good Witch. The couple is set to marry on May 6, 2023, but it’s worth noting that they nearly divorced last year following a major squabble, as revealed by Lee Da-hae on an episode of MBC’s Omniscient Interfering View.
Their main reason for not divorcing was allegedly their respective families, whom they both adored and couldn’t bear the thought of parting ways with. The two are now ready to embark on their first adventure as a married couple.
