Leon has played and lectured throughout the United States, as well as toured Germany, Italy, and Israel, where he produced, recorded, conducted workshops, and performed with his band, Da Lion. Leon has been a signature series with Remo since 1983, and Remo has manufactured and marketed the Leon Mobley custom-designed African drums since 1983.
He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson, Peter Wolf, Mick Jagger, Quincy Jones, Santana, Michael Jackson, Macy Gray, Trevor Hall, and many more. When Leon was in Boston, he taught at community centers and led school tours with the Art of Black Dance and Music. He also gave workshops at the Berklee College of Music.
He was the musical director at Paige Academy. It is a private school in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. He has taught weekly at UCLA, the Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Theater, Parks and Recreation, and the Los Angeles High School for the Arts on the Cal State campus. He is also the founder, artist, and music director of Da Lion and Djimbe West African Drummers and Dancers.
