Lewis Capaldi Surpasses Ed Sheeran As The Artist With The Most Streamed Song

Lewis Capaldi

Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi has surpassed Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You to become the UK’s most streamed song of all time.

According to the Chart Company, the song has been streamed 562 million times total, including both audio and video. Capaldi proclaimed himself “the king of streaming” in response to the news.

Don’t worry friends, there are no hard feelings; I just had to take this one. The Beatles, Drake, Metallica, The Eagles, and Michael Jackson are not included.

The Scottish singer, who broke Sheeran’s record, said of Ed: “He’s a man who is like a brother to me; he’s been a mentor; he’s thrown his arm around me and said, ‘Don’t worry everything’s going to be ok.'”

He has only been kind, gracious, kind, and a fantastic buddy in a field that is always evolving. So, I tell Ed, “Nice folks finish last.” Kid, if you sleep, you lose. Keep going!

In celebration of its 70th anniversary, The Official Chart Company made the announcement.

Al Martino’s Here In My Heart was the first song to ever reach number one on the first chart, which was created by the music publication the New Musical Express on November 14, 1952.

Percy Dickins, the NME’s advertising manager, assembled the Top 12 from a survey of 20 record stores because he believed that a chart would attract more advertisers to the publication.

The chart evolved throughout the ensuing seven decades, and it currently keeps account of each sale, stream, and download that takes place in the UK.

According to data made public on Monday by the Official Charts, the UK has consumed a total of 4.55 billion singles, 683 billion audio streams, and 128 billion video streams since the chart’s inception.

From The Beatles’ She Loves You and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody to Madonna’s Into the Groove and the Spice Girls’ Wannabe, 1,404 songs have been at number one during that time.

When the most recent chart is revealed this Friday, Taylor Swift’s Anti-Hero is predicted to remain at the top for the fourth week. With 4.94 million copies sold, Candle In The Wind by Elton John is the best-selling single ever in the UK.

178 more singles have sold one million copies or more; Shake It Off by Taylor Swift is the most recent to do so.

She is the first artist to accomplish the feat in the last two years. Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls was the last, reaching a million sales in February 2020. Frank Sinatra, who released My Way in 2018, was the most recent solo artist to be included.

Shake It Off may be the last million-selling single in the nation, according to the chart business, both physical and digital sales are now minuscule, even for the biggest songs.

The singles market is now 98.6% streaming, with the top single currently receiving an average of 6.82 million streams each week.

Only three songs—Someone You Loved, Shape of You, and Perfect by Ed Sheeran—have amassed 500 million streams to date.

400 million streams have been reached by seven songs, including Shotgun by George Ezra. Blinding Lights by The Weeknd and Mr. Brightside by The Killers.

The song “Baby Shark” by Pinkfong, which has received 220 million views, is the most streamed music video.

Queen’s Greatest Hits, which has sold over 7 million copies, is the best-selling album ever in the UK.
