Lewis Nkosi was born in South Africa on December 5, 1936. South African author, poet, and literary critic best known for his works criticizing apartheid. Many of his works were censored for their criticism of the South African government. He collaborated with fellow writer Wole Soyinka on the book Conversations With Chinua Achebe. He attended Harvard University but, after his studies, was not permitted to return to South Africa. He lived in exile in the U.S. until 2001.
