In Season 4 of The Witcher, Geralt of Rivia won’t be played by Henry Cavill, according to his announcement. The actor made it known that Liam Hemsworth will take over from him.
In Season 4, Henry Cavill, who popularized the fantasy series character Geralt of Rivia from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher book series, would no longer be seen portraying the part. The actor revealed who had been recast for the part along with the surprising announcement on Instagram.
Henry announced on Instagram that he would be leaving his role as Geralt. He wrote: “I have encountered both monsters and adventures throughout my voyage as Geralt of Rivia, but unfortunately, I will be putting my medallion and my swords away for Season 4.
The wonderful Mr. Liam Hemsworth will assume the role of the White Wolf in my place. I hand the mantle to Liam with reverence for the time spent inhabiting Geralt and excitement to see his interpretation of this most intriguing and nuanced of individuals, as with the best literary characters. Liam, good sir, enjoy exploring and discovering all that you can about this character. He has such a lovely dimension to him.”

Following Cavill’s announcement that Liam will continue the story of Geralt of Rivia from Season 4, Hemsworth confirmed the news on Instagram and shared his thoughts on playing a beloved character.
According to Liam, who has long been a fan of The Witcher, he is “over the moon” to have been given the chance to appear in the Netflix series.
Hemsworth responded to his casting in an Instagram post by writing, “I’m ecstatic about the chance to play Geralt of Rivia as a Witcher fan. I’m honored that Henry Cavill is giving me the reins and enabling me to pick up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of Geralt’s story since he has been a fantastic Geralt.”
The 32-year-old actor added as he continued to praise Henry, “I’ve been a fan of yours for a long time, and I was moved by the life you gave to this adored character. I may have some large shoes to fill, but I’m genuinely eager to enter The Witcher universe.”
Season 3 of The Witcher
Cavill’s final appearance as Geralt will be in the third season of the show following the recent news of Liam’s casting. Reports state that the third season’s production is already complete.
The third season of the fantasy series will be based on Time of Contempt, the second novel in the series, according to showrunner Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich.
According to rumors, Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) travel to Aretuza in Time of Contempt. However, they end up being split up, and the book focuses more on these three characters and their pasts.
On-set pictures from Season 3’s filming have previously hinted at a conflict between Geralt and Vilgefortz of Roggeveen (played by Mahesh Jadu). Netflix announced the third season in 2021. Cavill revealed that season 3 will be launched in the summer of 2023 at Tudum 2022 last month.
Season 4 of The Witcher
The show has already been renewed for a fourth season even before the debut of its third. Although the fourth season will differ from what fans had anticipated because Liam Hemsworth has been cast to play Geralt.
Following his recent announcement about playing Superman once again in the DC Extended Universe, Cavill has announced his departure from The Witcher series.
Given that he previously played Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games, Liam will be stepping into the world of fantasy literature for the second time.
His action prowess was again on display in Independence Day: Resurgence. There are still some unanswered questions regarding Season 4, such as the start date of production.
A prequel television program for The Witcher has also been announced in the interim. On December 25, 2022, The Witcher: Blood Origin is scheduled to make its debut.
The story of seven outcasts in the elf world who band together on a journey against an unstoppable power will be the focus of the television series, which is set more than a thousand years before the events of The Witcher.
The prequel’s cast features several well-known actors, including Minnie Driver, Dylan Moran-Lenny Henry, Francesca Mills, and Michelle Yeoh.
