Lindsey Vonn early life career and Winter Olympics
Most of us don’t know what we are going to do in the future. Sometimes, we can’t think of an early career, but Lindsey Vonn, Olympic champion, knew at a young age. Vonn said she wasn’t competitive in too many sports in her later interviews, besides skiing. At the age of 2, Vonn began practicing at Buck Hill with the coach of her father Erich Sailor, a U.S. ski and snowboarding inductee in the Hall of Fame. Her grandfather Don Kildow even gave her some ski lessons.
At the age of 7, the legendary alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn had skied all year round in Colorado, Oregon, and Minnesota. She moved to Colorado by train to obtain her ski lessons at the Vail Ski Club.
She was inspired to be like her when she met Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street in 1995. Lindsey sees Picabo as her model. Later, Picabo partly taught Vonn skiing. After several years of hard training travel, Lindsey and her family moved to Vail, Colorado. The enthusiastic athlete established difficult and challenging conditions in his first year at SCV (Ski Club Vail; the skiers were not trained within the gates.
Lindsey was taught by a female coach, Colby S Scudder. Scudder permitted Vonn to be enrolled in an age-class skiing program that her age skiers had not been allowed to take.
Under this program, her skills were mastered by many coaches such as Todd A Rash, Reid Philips, and Gus Peretz. She also started the “in gate” preparation. In 1999, Lindsey Vonn and Will McDonald became the first Americans to win Cadet’s slalom in the Topolino di Sci Alpino Trophy in Italy.
At the age of 16, Vonn made her World Cup debut in Park City, Utah on November 18, 2000. She made her debut at the Winter Olympics 2002 in Salt Lake City at 17 and took part in slalom and combined with sixth place.
At the Junior World Championship in France, Lindsey eventually won a silver medal downhill in 2003. After her victory, she finished third in a downhill at Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, in January 2004. She won a silver medal in the ‘U.S. Alpine Championships’ the same year. In 2005, she finished fourth in both combined and downhill for Lindsey’s first world championships in Bormio, Italy. While she was ninth in super-G, she couldn’t finish the giant slalom.
Lindsey was the recipient of theWorld Cup’ overall award. She is the second American to be awarded Tamara McKinney’s downhill victories.
World Cup Champion Vonn won the 2008 joint title of theUS Alpine Championships.’ More significantly, she became the first woman in 2009 to win the world title super-G, held in Val-d’Isere, France. She won the downhill round, in addition. She was later disqualified for splitting a frame.
Even after announcing that Lindsey would not retire until she breaks Ingemar Sternmark’s record, Lindsey said in October 2018; she would retire at the end of the season of the 2018-19 Fis Alpine Ski World Cup.
