After Louis Rees Zammit announced his retirement from professional rugby, his parents, Maxine and Joe, appeared to support his wish to play in the NFL.

Louis Rees Zammit, a 22-year-old excellent rugby player who was thought to have a promising future in the sport, has decided to pursue an NFL career. Louis announced his decision on Instagram, stating that he would leave rugby to play American football on January 16, 2024.

This announcement occurred just minutes before Wales released their Six Nations Championship squad, which Louis would ordinarily be a part of. This statement stunned many people, especially his followers, teammates, and coaches. To get a spot, Louis plans to participate in the NFL International Player Pathway program.

After finishing the 10-week program, he could be eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft. However, Louis stated that the move does not necessarily signal that he is retiring from rugby, and he has no plans to return soon.

The former rugby player has taken an important career move by choosing to play in the National Football League. Interestingly, Louis’ father was the one who first introduced him to the world of football. His father, who played American football with the Cardiff Bay Tigers, instilled in him a love for the game. Furthermore, when asked about his reasons for pursuing an NFL career, Louis stated,

“I want to continue my father’s legacy and make him proud.”

Former rugby player Louis Rees Zammit played for Gloucester in the English Premiership as well as the Welsh national team. He began his career with Cardiff Blues before joining the Gloucester senior side in 2019 as the club’s youngest Premiership player. The child had an immediate impact, becoming the youngest European player and try scorer.
