Luke was reared by his parents, who own a photographic and fine arts studio in Suffolk. He has an elder brother who studied physics and is now a professor of neuroradiology, as well as a sister who is an art instructor at many universities. Luke attended a high school in Suffolk before attending the University of Wales, then the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in American Studies.

Luke made his cinematic debut in 2005 as Bruce in “Ambition,” and his next major performance was as Luke in “Pull.” In 2011, he was cast as the captain of the guard in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” and in 2013, he was cast as the lead in “Dracula: The Dark Prince.”
The film follows Dracula on his quest for the Lightbringer, as he meets Alina, a beautiful crusader who resembles his slain bride. He abducts the girl and transports her to his castle, where he must win her heart. The film garnered negative reviews, however, Luke was lauded for his performance. He went on to play Butcher in “300: Rise of an Empire” in 2014, and he was recently cast as Draka in “Dampyr,” which is expected to be published in 2021.
In 2001, he made his TV series debut in the “Crossroads” episode of “Band Brothers,” and in 2003, he returned to the “Crossroads” cast as Ryan Samson. He rose to prominence after participating in 20 episodes of the British TV drama “Mile High,” which depicts the life of the cabin crew members of Fresh!, a low-cost airline. He went on to win a key role in the TV series “Holby City” in 2006, appearing in 200 episodes till 2011 in the show that chronicles the professional and personal lives of the medical staff and patients in the cardiac unit of Holby City General Hospital.
He later starred in a few episodes of other TV shows, including “Uncle Max” in 2006, “Law & Order: the UK” in 2011, and “Beauty & the Beast” in 2013. His next noteworthy role occurred in 2016 when he was cast as Woodes Rogers in “Black Sails,” in which he appeared in 20 episodes, and his most recent appearances have been in “Game of Thrones” in 2016, and “Ransom” from 2017 to 2019, in which he played the lead role as Eric Beaumont. In addition, Luke provided the voice of the Nameless Hero in the 2012 video game “Risen 2: Dark Waters.”

Luke has been interested in working out since he was a teenager, and he still goes to the gym several times per week. He has also received his certificate, which allows him to work as a licensed personal trainer. He enjoys riding and has been learning kickboxing from a Hungarian coach for over a year. Roberts enjoys studying new sports, such as fencing, which was required for his role as Ser Arthur Dayne in the HBO series “Game of Thrones” in 2016. He enjoys traveling and has visited various states in the United States as well as other locations in Europe, but his favorite travel destination is New York City, which he visits several times a year.
