Mae Muller, The British Act Announced For The Song Contest

Mae Muller

The United Kingdom will be represented at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest by Mae Muller. The 25-year-old will perform I Wrote A Song during the competition in May, trying to replicate Sam Ryder’s victory from the previous year.

“To compete in such a large music competition is a dream come true,” she remarked, describing her participation as “outstanding.”

The United Kingdom is one of the final countries to reveal its 2023 entry.

The BBC has been collaborating with a management business to choose the act, as it did every year, using the same selection process.

Born in 1997 – the year the United Kingdom last won Eurovision – Muller has supported Little Mix on tour and collaborated with musicians such as Aitch and Sigala.

Muller stated,

“I am a tremendous fan of so many of the artists that have achieved success at Eurovision, from ABBA to Mneskin.”

Sam Ryder’s incredible performance last year showed that the United Kingdom can return to the left side of the scoreboard.

Last year, Ryder placed second, giving the United Kingdom its best finish in 20 years.

Muller acknowledged that she had high expectations to meet.

The singer stated,

“This is so much better than anything I’ve ever done, and I can truly feel it.” “You must go big, and you must do it correctly.”

She reported that Ryder had already provided some tips. Also, he congratulated Muller on her selection in an Instagram video.

“You’re in for the wildest, most mystifying ride of your life,” he warned. Have a great time.

After years of poor performance, Ryder turned things around for the United Kingdom in 2022, ranking second behind Ukraine.

The management company TaP Music, which has worked with Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, and Ellie Goulding, chose the TikTok star and his song Space Man for the competition.

This year, they began with “a shortlist of 50 or so” performers, according to co-owner Ben Mawson; however, upon meeting Muller, they “fell in love with her” immediately.

Anna Neville, co-president of the company, stated,

“We needed someone with a tremendous lot of charisma and a powerful voice, who can perform beautifully and without making any mistakes on the night.”

“Mae is bright and humorous, and we have tremendous faith in her. Mae will transport it home.”

I Wrote A Song is one of Mae Muller’s distinctive spiky breakup songs.

Over a polished club rhythm, she joyously brings a cheating ex to task, detailing all the things she intends to do to him: make a commotion outside his house, damage his car, and make his life miserable.

Instead, she expresses her fury by composing a song about him. In a video introducing the song, she stated, “That is what we call growth, ladies, and gentlemen.”

Defined by one colleague as a “Bulgarian nightclub banger” and by my 13-year-old as “too excellent for Eurovision,” this is the most contemporary and credible song we’ve sent to the competition in quite some time.

Mae’s cheeky north London charm shows the depth of her disdain, and the chorus is instantly unforgettable.

The flamenco guitar flourishes are more reminiscent of My Chico Latino than La Isla Bonita. Yet, they are a shrewd admission of Europe’s influence on a British music business that frequently considers itself superior.

About the song’s potential, I am undecided. My initial reaction to the song was akin to a cat-tasting wasabi: Get me away from this horror show!

It takes multiple listens to really appreciate Mae’s campy nonchalance. After twenty-four hours, I can’t get it out of my mind, yet in Liverpool, she has just one opportunity to impress Eurovision voters.

The nation will anxiously await the outcome of their decision.

Like Ryder, Muller will spend months preceding the competition marketing her music internationally.

“There’s an additional Eurovision component, which requires going to countries you wouldn’t normally visit for a commercial campaign,” Mawson explained.

“Numerous trips, radio, and television broadcasts, and interviews. It will be an exhausting few months for her, but hopefully enjoyable.”

Muller stated that she was ready to go. “I cannot wait to see each of you. I really anticipate visiting Liverpool “She made a TikTok post. “I’m quite ecstatic! What is existence?”
