Magnum P.I.

Season 5 of Magnum P.I. will premiere on NBC on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Earlier seasons aired on CBS, but the show was sadly dropped by the network after season 4. NBC has resurrected the show for the 2022-23 television season.

Tim Kang will play suspended Honolulu Police Department (HPD) Detective Gordon Katsumoto, Perdita Weeks will play Juliet Higgins, Zachary Knighton will play Orville “Rick” Wright, Stephen Hill will play Theodore “T.C.” Calvin, Amy Hill will play Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta, and Jay Hernandez will play Thomas Magnum.

Magnum P.I. Season 5 will be released in two parts

The upcoming season will feature twenty episodes split into two parts. Each section will have ten episodes. On February 19, the first two episodes, The Passenger and The Breaking Point will be released. Season 5 will pick up where season 4 left off, with the group gearing up for new adventures in Aloha State.

On NBC’s official website, the upcoming season is described as follows:

“Magnum P.I.” is based on the 1980s crime series of the same name, with Hernandez playing Thomas Magnum, an ex-Navy SEAL turned smooth-talking private investigator. When Magnum isn’t working as a security consultant for the mysterious novelist Robin Masters, he and his trusted team tackle some of Hawaii’s most bizarre cases. Season 5 will undoubtedly provide a slew of new experiences, picking up where Season 4 left off.”

The following is the official trailer for the upcoming season:

Susan Rovner, Chairman of Entertainment Programming at NBCUniversal, stated in a news release:

“Magnum P.I. comes to us with a dedicated audience that we hope to cultivate,” the studio says.

Jay Hernandez, who plays Thomas Magnum, reflected on his onscreen relationship with co-star Perdita Weeks, who plays former MI6 agent Juliet Higgins, in the episode.

He stated, ”

“This is something different. It’s a genuine dynamic that we now have to debate because we know the show’s beats with our eyes closed.”

He continued, saying:

“After doing it for so many seasons and being presented with stuff, it just comes so naturally to us now that it’s like, ‘Hey, hang on. How are we going to do it? Do you have a positive feeling about it? ‘Do you believe you’re correct?’ As a result, the dynamic is altered. It’s intriguing because it’s novel.”

What is Magnum P.I.’s premise?

Peter M. Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim’s Magnum P.I. follows an ex-Navy SEAL named Thomas Magnum who returns from Afghanistan and uses his military skills to become a private investigator in Hawaii. It is a reboot of the same-named 1980s series created by Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. Larson. In the original series, Tom Selleck portrayed Thomas Magnum.

According to the official synopsis of the show:

“Magnum P.I.” is a modernized version of the original series that follows Thomas Magnum, a distinguished former Navy SEAL who repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator after returning from Afghanistan.”

It continues, saying:

Magnum, a charming rogue, an American hero, and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, lives in a guest cottage on Robin’s Nest, the opulent estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his private investigation firm.”
