Malachi Nelson is Eric and Naomi Nelson’s son. Nelson’s father, a passionate football fan, had a huge influence on his son’s desire to play the sport.
Nelson showed early signs of talent, with his father remembering his son having great arm power as young as nine years old. The football prodigy was given the option to play quarterback for Louisiana State University while he was in seventh grade. Malachi Nelson, born December 7, 2004, is an American football quarterback who is now a member of the South Carolina Trojans.
The young athlete was born in Los Alamitos, California. The 18-year-old began receiving scholarship offers to play NCAA football while he was in seventh grade. As a freshman, Nelson had eight touchdowns, five interceptions, and 883 yards throwing for Los Alamitos.
He also completed 73.9% of his throws for 1,513 yards and 23 touchdowns as a sophomore. In his junior season, he was named the Press-Telegram Player of the Year after throwing for 2,690 yards and 39 touchdowns. Following his senior year, ESPN ranked the quarterback the nation’s top recruit.
Prior to committing to Oklahoma, the young athlete had offers from Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and USC. Unfortunately, after Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley resigned, the quarterback elected to play at USC instead.
Malachi Nelson Parents
Malachi Nelson is Eric and Naomi Nelson’s adored son. Nelson’s father, Eric, is a well-known pastor at Calvary Chapel WestGrove in Garden Grove. The senior pastor has been married to his wife Naomi for nearly 20 years. The couple has two additional children besides Malachi.
The mother of three appears to prefer a life away from the spotlight, which explains why she hasn’t received many headlines. Meanwhile, pastor Eric recounts his humble beginnings in California as the sole provider for his three children. As a result, when Nelson consented to a name, image, and likeness (NIL) agreement with The H.wood Group, he was pleased.
Because of his father and coach, Justin J. Giangrande, Malachi has been a leader in the NIL field. The pastor admitted that they have maintained a cautious approach to NIL and have followed the advice of other younger players’ parents to best navigate the new world of NIL.
Furthermore, Eric believes that rather than pursuing money, they should align with the best team possible. The father-son combo is determined to see young Nelson play in the NFL. Eric, on the other hand, has benefited from his son’s increased earnings. They did not steal money from their child, according to the priest. Nonetheless, he is relieved that his child has achieved freedom.
Life After Signing NIL Contract
Following his new contract, the young quarterback upgraded from a 1999 Ford Escape to a 2022 Mercedes AMG GLE 53 Coupe. Nelson Sr. cracked a joke about how the pastor’s antiquated car, The Dragon, would break down and refuse to start when he needed to pick up his children.
The preacher praises the progress over their previously untrustworthy “The Dragon.” Eric also admits that his son has made several costly purchases since signing the contract. The father of three, on the other hand, is happy that his son is gaining sound financial judgment.
In addition, the pastor is pleased with his 18-year-old and praises his vision, long-term investment, and real estate strategy. At the age of 18, the young footballing prodigy is a wonderful prospect that fans should keep an eye on.
